Obverse: On the obverse of the coin depicts a Pope Saint John Paul II, with the Cathedral of Wadowice (the Minor Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary) where he was baptized and on the right the house where he was born. The architectural complex is crowned by an eight-pointed star, a symbol of the Virgin Mary, to whom John Paul II was very devoted. The same star is also the sun which is in Christian symbolism is the supreme allegory of Christ, a physical representation of the concept of divinity and truth. The laurel branch is in reference to the glory of the Saints and to victory. The pope's name "PAPA GIOVANNI PAOLO II" is engraved at the top of the obverse, and the inscription "CITTA DEL VATICANO" is at the bottom. On the right, we can see "1920" - the year of the pope's birth and "2020" - the year of minting.
